Everyone in this class should choose a city. It can be any city in the world. The only city it cannot be is Philadelphia, because that is the city I will be using to create example assignments.

Have several options because, only one person per city. Why, you ask? Because your city will not only be the focus of your work this term, but you will also be the official representative of that city for the Global Council of Climate Leaders (i.e. our class working group). You will be using your own research on your chosen city to inform your thinking and actions as a representative on the Global Council. Please make sure that you choose a city where you can get enough data for this quarter. If you find yourself struggling to complete the below questions due to a lack of information or inaccessible information, you might want to choose a different city.

<aside> ✏️ Please come to class on Tuesday October 4th with answers to at least 2-4 of the questions on the below lists. They can be any questions you want.

<aside> ✏️ Please complete three sections on this list by Thursday October 13th. You will need to submit this assignment with your midterm.

To be clear, this is a research assignment. But think of it as a worksheet. And it is an ethnographic assignment. What is ethnography? Ethnography is a method of scientific description used by researchers. In this assignment, you are using a set of research questions to guide data collection. Your responses to the below questions are descriptions, i.e. ethnographic. They should be as detailed, specific, and in-depth as possible, but I will talk about this more in class on Tuesday September 27th, using my own example of Philadelphia.

Feel free to add additional, new questions to any of the sections below. Or rewrite mine if you like. I would love to see you build skill in learning how to ask research questions. And there is a whole section at the bottom that allows you to create new question sets. Of course, this is bonus or extra credit kind of work. Feel free to just answer the questions below...

You can also duplicate this page as a template, and work on your responses in Notion. See how I've done this for Philadelphia.
